Japan Gov’t – PRADET Inaugurate the Safe House for Women and Children in Dili

DILI, 15 march 2023 ( TATOLI)– The Government of Japan through its Embassy in Timor – Leste together with the Psychosocial Recovery and Development in East Timor(PRADET) today Inaugurate the Safe House for Women and Children in Dili Municipality.

The Safe House for Women and Children was inaugurated by the Ambassador of Japan to Timor – Leste Tetsuya KIMURA, the Minister of Health, Odete Maria Freitas Belo, and the Secretary of State for Land and Property Eldino Rodrigues dos Santos and participated by the representatives of Ministry of Health, local authorities, national and international agencies, civil society, and among others. 

A statement seen by TATOLI stated that, this project including the Project of Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project (GGP), from the Government of Japan through its Embassy in Timor – Leste to the PRADET with a budget wroth US90,895.

The safe house is a shelter for women and children who experienced domestic violence in Timor – Leste.

Ambassador of Japan to Timor – Leste KIMURA stated, “The Government of Japan has been promoting the idea 

of human security. It is a concept where every person, particularly vulnerable persons, can spend a safe and secure life without fear of critical situations such as violence, disease, and hunger. I believe that this safe house will play a very important role in protecting and caring for these people and help them to spend a 

safer and more secure life.”

The inauguration of the Safe House for Women and Children in Dili is the second project where previously the first project was launched in 2000, while 136 projects have been implemented under the GGP scheme in all 14 Municipalities of Timor-Leste.

The projects mainly assist with community infrastructure, including the construction and rehabilitation of school facilities, public clinics, and water supply systems, addressing various basic human needs at the grassroots level.
