DILI, march 20, 2023 (TATOLI) – Minister of Finance through the Project Management Unit (PMU) reported that from October 2022 to February 2023, Tibar Port collected over $470,000.
The Director of PMU, Rui Soares reported on the website of the Ministry of Finance that this revenue was obtained through a total shipment of 60 containers at the port from October 2022 to February 2023.
“Of the 60 containers, the total revenue for five months reached $470 thousand, which came from grantor fees (navigation tax and docking tax) and traffic payments (tax royalties),” wrote in a statement.
The Minister of Finance compared, the taxes collected at the end of 2021 (October to December) when the administrative process was fully carried out at the Port of Dili, the Customs Authority only collected revenue of $20.4 million.
But following the transfer in September 2022 to the Tibar Port, from October to December 2022, the Customs Authority has collected $33.4 million in revenue, which means an increase in tax revenue collection of up to $13 million.
In addition, it was stated that from January to February 2023, the Customs Authority collected revenue of $ 16 million from various countries through entry points such as seaports, airports, Batugade (Bobonaro), and Salele (Covalima) land borders.
With tax categories such as Import Tax of $5.1 million; $7.8 million Selective Consumption Tax; Sales Tax of $2.9 million; $114,600 fine; Import/Export Fee of $13.8 thousand; and other Customs Tax of $ 20.6 thousand.
