DILI, 27 march 2023 (TATOLI)- Director General of the Secretariat of the Technical Electoral Administration (STAE) – Acilino Manuel Branco, revealed that STAE had started voter registration in the diaspora including Portugal, Northern Ireland, and Great Britain.
“Since the beginning of March until now, STAE officers in the diaspora have re-registered more than 50 voters every day. So it is hoped that they will be able to fully participate in the 2023 parliamentary elections,” Acilino Branco told reporters in Delta Nova, Monday.
According to Branco, the number is only 50 people a day, because many Timorese are focused on work.
“Despite they don’t have enough time, as citizens, they have the right and must be willing to take part in the 2023 parliamentary elections which will take place on May 21,” he concluded.
In addition, Branco said, in the previous presidential election more than 4,000 Timorese in diasporas participated in the election, therefore he hopes that the number of voters will continue to increase in the next parliamentary election.
