Court of Appeal announces results of drawing of political parties for 2023 parliamentary elections

DILI, 29 march 2023 (TATOLI) – The Court of Appeal, today, hold a drawing to determine the order in which the 17 political parties will appear on the ballot for the 2023 Parliamentary Elections.

The result of the draw was announced by the President of the Court of Appeal, Deolindo dos Santos, at the Court of Appeal office in Dili.

Representatives of the 17 political parties were present to witness the draw, including Journalists and other entities.

“Now, the 17 political are assigned a number that determines the order of their registration on the official ballot for the 21 May parliamentary elections,” Santos announced.

Santos stressed that after the draw for the order of the 17 political parties for the parliamentary elections, STAE will proceed with the printing of the ballot papers.

“Court of Appeal would present the result of the political parties’ numerical order list to both the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) and the National Electoral Commission (CNE) to print the ballot papers,” he said. 

Below is the list of the numerical order of the 17 political parties for the next general elections:

  1. National Development Party (PDN);
  2. Aileba People Liberation Party (PLPA);
  3. People’s Liberation Party (PLP);
  4. Democratic Party (PD);
  5. Kmanek Haburas Unidade Nasional Timor Oan (KHUNTO);
  6. Green Party (PVT);
  7. Timorese Union Democratic (UDT);
  8. Party of Unity for Democratic Development (PUDD);
  9. Republican Party (PR);
  10. National Unity Democratic Party of the Timorese Resistance (UNDERTIM);
  11. Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor (FRETILIN);
  12. National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT);
  13. Timorese Social Democratic Action Center Party (CASDTL);
  14. Maubere People’s Liberation Movement Party (MLPM);
  15. Timorese Socialist Party (PST);
  16. Christian Democratic Party (PDC);
  17. Association of Timorese Popular Monarchy (APMT).

“As President of the Court of Appeal, I would like to thank all the representatives of the 17 political parties for being here today. Please, inform your followers about your party’s order,” Santos said.

Of the 17 qualified parties, there is no coalition to contest in the parliamentary elections.
