Govt approves reapplication of Zacarias Albano to the post of Executive Secretary of CPLP

DILI, 29 march 2023 (TATOLI) – The Council of Ministers decided to approve the reapplication of Zacarias Albano da Costa to the post of Executive Secretary of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries for another two-year mandate. 

The election of the Executive Secretary of CPLP will be confirmed in the next Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries which will take place in july 2023, Sao Tome and Principe.

Zacarias da Costa was elected Executive Secretary for the biennium of 2021-2023 by the XIII CPLP Conference of Heads of State and Government, held in Luanda, Angola, on july 17th, 2021.

Costa was the first Timorese person to hold the office. Prior to this, Costa served as the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste.

The government approves Costa’s reapplication to the post as his mandate will end on 31 July, 2023, so

Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Timor-Leste are the nine member states of the CPLP.
