MoEYS to extend homeschooling program to three municipalities

DILI, 11 april 2023 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports (MoEYS) will extend the ‘Eskola iha Uma’ (homeschooling) program to three municipalities, namely Baucau, Ermera, and Bobonaro.

The homeschooling program was a pilot project first implemented in the capital Dili and considered a viable education method to ensure no child is left behind in the country.

Eskola iha Uma (homeschooling) was launched on 4 August 2022, by the Minister of Education, Youth, and Sports, Armindo Maia, at the 30 August School, in Dili, today. 

“This year we will extend the homeschooling program to these three municipalities – Baucau, Ermera, and Bobonaro,” said Minister Maia in Dili.

Minister Maia stressed that homeschooling is the result of the “vision and commitment of the 8th Government to put people at the center of development.” 

He said the ministry will also launch mobile library services in order to support the implementation of the homeschooling programs in the three municipalities.

More than one thousand students who have been attending the homeschooling program, in Dili, are scheduled to graduate on april 15, 2023. 

Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak was invited to attend the graduation of the 2022 homeschoolers and at the same time launch the 2023 intake.
