National Parliament delivers official letters to newly elected MPs

DILI, 16 june 2023 (TATOLI) – The National Parliament (NP) has today sent official letters to the newly elected 65 members of parliament of the five political parties with parliamentary seats, namely, National Congress for Timorese Reconstruction (CNRT), the Revolutionary Front for an Independent East Timor (FRETILIN), Democratic Party (DP), Kmanek Haburas Unidade Nasional Timor Oan (KHUNTO), People’s Liberation Party (PLP) to attend the first plenary session.

“The National Parliament has sent letters of invitation to the newly elected MPs to participate in the first plenary session of the VI National Parliament,” said the President of the National Parliament, Aniceto Guterres Lopes.

Guterres said that the National Parliament is preparing its five-year mandate report to be presented to the new parliament at the handover ceremony: “Our recommendations will be included in the report.”

“The report will be published on june 21. I will also present the report on june 22,” he concluded.

The outgoing parliament will hold its last plenary session on june 19, three days before the handover ceremony, scheduled for June 22

According to the official announcement of the parliamentary election results by the Court of Appeal, on monday (05/06), CNRT was declared the winner of the elections to form a coalition government with PD, which won six seats. Meanwhile, the three outgoing ruling parties only won 28 seats, including 19 from FRETILIN, five from KHUNTO, and four from the PLP.
