DILI, 11 july 2023 (TATOLI)- A Non-Governmental Organization (ONG), namely Mahein Foundation (FM), was recommended to identify the potential to contribute to peace and country development.
“We always observe that the involvement of GAMR members in the political party is increasing. (..) In the parliamentary election in 2023, there will be two parties,” The Founder of FM, Nelson Belo, said, recommending that Martial Arts and Ritual Groups (GAMR) not be effectively involved in political parties.
Mr. Belo informed that the Foundation had carried out the second study in 2022 and the third study in 2023. Those studies identified the involvement of members of GAMR in political parties.
FM knows that GAMR members have a lot of potential to contribute to the development of Timor-Leste.
Thus, it recommends to the government, through the relevant institution, to identify the potential of GAMR, aiming to contribute to the country’s development.
“We hope the government, through the Minister of Youth and Sport (MoYS), should be able to involve potential young people who are joining martial arts to promote their ability in sport,” he stressed.
“The martial arts members have potential as athletes, and it is required to further develop and promote their potential in sport to contribute to the country’s development,” he concluded.
So far, Timor-Leste, through the National Electoral Commission (CNE), has enlisted 17 political parties, and those parties have participated in the Parliamentary Election that occurred between april 19 and may 19.
