China wishes to realize a new agreement with Timor-Leste

DILI, 21 july 2023 (TATOLI)-The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Nong Rong this morning had an official meeting with Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão to convey China’s commitment to realize a new agreement with Timor-Leste in various fields.

The Meeting between the Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, and the Chinese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nong Rong was held at the Government Palace, Dili.

Speaking after the meeting, Xanana Gusmão said, the Chinese Government had also paid attention to the political situation in Timor-Leste and knew that there would be a program change from the new Government.

“We discussed various areas of cooperation and today we are still in urgent work. So The Chinese Foreign Minister asked that it is better to have a cooperation agreement as soon as possible so that China can support us,” said Xanana Gusmão in the Maritime Boundary Cabinet, Government Office, on friday.

The second meeting which lasted for about two hours also discussed the possibility of the departure of the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta to China to meet with Chinese President, Xi Jinping in September.

“Having a really harmonious conversation with Prime Minister Xanana, we discussed various cooperation in every sector,” said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Nong Rong.

Deputy Minister, Nong Rong arrived in Timor-Leste on 19 July 2023 with his delegation consisting of Fan Hong, Deputy Director General of the Department of Asian Affairs; Yin Xingyin, Secretary to Assistant Foreign Minister; Zhang Lin, Deputy Division Director of the Department of Asian; Jiang Ying, First Secretary of the Department of Asian Affairs and Wang Jin, Chinese-English Interpreter.

During the visit, Nong Rong met with his counterpart Milena Maria da Costa Rangel, Deputy Minister for ASEAN Affairs; Bendito dos Santos Freitas, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and José Ramos-Horta, President of the Republic. Nong Rong and the delegation departed from Timor-Leste on 21 July 2023.
