DILI, July 20, 2023 (TATAOLI)— Timor-Leste National Institute of Statistics (INETL) launched the 2023 Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, where the report shows that the cost of all products is +0.6% increase compared to the last month +0.3% in may 2023.
Data from INETL shows that the price increase was due to an increase in non-alcoholic food and beverage products by +1.0%, as well as an increase in alcohol and tobacco by +0.5%, transportation costs by +0.3%, clothing and shoes +0, 3%, household appliances, and maintenance +0.1%.
“In addition, the housing product -0.3% is a contradictory change from inflation for all groups. The food and non-alcoholic beverage group rose by +1.0% due to the majority of rice +2.1%, vegetables +2.7%, food products +0.8%, milk, cheese, and eggs (+0.6 %), sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and sweets +0.2%,” Director Elias dos Santos Ferreira said in a statement seen by Tatoli, Thursday.
He explained, cooking oil -0.7%, meat -0.5%, bread and cereals -0.6%, and fruits -1.0% were contradictory changes from inflation for all non-alcoholic food and drink groups.
Annual CPI percentage change increased +7.0% compared to June 2023 and June 2022, showing contributions from food and non-alcoholic drinks +8.0%, alcohol and tobacco +32.7%, education +7.0%, clothing and shoes (fashion) +1.8%, communications (+0.8%) for June 2023.
The transportation group -3.4%, tools, and household maintenance and furnishings -2.4%, and culture -1.1% being a mixed change of inflation for all groups for the June 2023 annual calculation.
Tradeable inflation increased +0.9% and non-tradeable fell -0.2% every month, compared to between June 2023 and May 2023. Thus, tradable inflation rose by +8.8% and non-tradeable also increased by +2.6% in the annual calculation of the comparison between June 2022 and June 2023.
