BNCTL start paying a total of 5.407 outstanding scholarship student

DILI, august 02, 2023 (TATOLI) – The National Bank of Commerce of Timor-Leste (BNCTL) has made available funding of three million US dollars, for 5,407 outstanding scholarships.

“We started the process of paying the scholarships this Monday, however, 1,593 of the 7,000 beneficiaries will have to update their bank account number”, The Head of the Treasury Division of BNCTL, Joaquim Martins, told Tatoli, in Dili.

Joaquim Martins recalled that the BNCTL received 4.2 million dollars to pay seven thousand merit scholarships. However, he said, it was only possible to pay 5,407, as the bank can only process the transfer to Matenek Savings accounts.

“Several beneficiaries provided more than one bank account number, in addition, many provided account numbers whose holders are veterans or Ordinary Savings, Asu’ain, and Ha’u-nian future accounts. BNCTL only transfers merit scholarships to holders of Matenek Savings accounts”, explained Joaquim Martins.

According to Martins, the Ministry of Education is aware of the situation and will contact the 1,593 students to update their bank accounts.

Concerning the rest, Joaquim Martins requests that they confirm the deposit of the scholarship has already been made at the BNCTL agencies.
