DILI, 04 August 2023 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste national under-23 football team is preparing and ready to compete in the upcoming AFF U-23 Championship which will take place in Chonburi, Thailand from 17 to 26 august 2023.
Deputy Secretary Timor-Leste Football Federation (FFTL), Frederico Martins said the team is under intensive training in preparing for the AFF U-23 Championship.
“We are still in the preparation phase and we hope our players will perform well in this regional competition,” Martins told TATOLI.
He said that Timor-Leste National Team will play three friendly matches before the official match which will take place on 17 august 2023.
Twenty-three players will leave for Thailand this month to take part in the competition.
According to ASEAN Football, the 10 participating teams have been divided into three groups. Host Thailand find themselves in Group A paired alongside Cambodia, Brunei Darussalam and Myanmar, while defending champions Vietnam will take on Philippines and Laos in Group C. Group B is made up by Timor-Leste, Malaysia and Indonesia.
The top team of each group will progress to the semi-finals alongside the best runner-up from the Group Stage, while the winners from the single-leg semi-finals will compete in the Final on 26 August 2023.
The AFF U-23 Championship is an international football competition contested by the national under-23 teams of the member nations of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF).
