DILI, 09 august 2023 ( TATOLI)– Malaysia is committed to supporting the ninth constitutional government in carrying out the decentralization process.
This commitment was made by the Malaysian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Amarjit Sarjit during a courtesy visit with Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao.
“I had a courtesy visit with Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao, we discussed relations between the two countries, and on this occasion, we also discussed future bilateral cooperation between Timor-Leste and Malaysia,” Ambassador Amarjit Sarjit told reporters at the Government Palace, Dili.
Ambassador added that Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmao prioritized the decentralization process to be carried out in all municipalities, therefore Prime Minister asked for support from the Government of Malaysia to empower civil servants through capacity-building training, especially training in the financial sector and planning systems.
“Capacity building for financial and planning systems is very important to improve financial administrative and bureaucratic systems, therefore Malaysia will focus on empowering human resources in the areas of planning, administrative and financial management to ensure good governance in Timor Leste.”
In the same place, Gusmao thanked the Malaysian Ambassador for conveying the aspirations of the two countries based on need.
Since 2000 until now, Malaysia through The Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP) has sent more than 600 Timorese to take part in various fields of training including administration, planning, and financial management.
