Dili, 09 august 2023 (TATOLI)- South Korean Ambassador for Timor Leste, Shin Mantaek, and Deputy Prime Minister coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs and Minister of Tourism and the Environment (DPMCMEAMTE) of Francisco Kalbuadi Lay discussed the transform tourism in Atauru island because potential tourism sector of Jeju area.
South Korean Ambassador for Timor-Leste, Shin Mantaek said South Korea committed to supporting Transforming Ataúru Island to become a potential area for tourism as Jeju-friendly environmental island.
“Currently we still do not have the specific cooperation of this project. But as we know that on last May 2023 President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta visited South Korea and discuss with Major of Jeju friendly Island on this issue,” South Korean Ambassador for Timor-Leste, Shin Mantaek told journalists in Farol, tuesday.
He hopes the Major of Jeju will visit Timor-Leste to discuss this issue to help Timor-Leste transformation of Ataúru Island into a friendly environment and potential for the tourism sector.
“The project is still in the planning process and we hope the major of Jeju will come to Timor- Leste to have further discussion on this issue with the government of Timor-Leste,” He said
During the meeting, both sides also discussed the Timorese migrant workers who are currently working in South Korea.
“I informed Excellency Deputy Prime Minister that the Korean government wishes to deploy more young Timorese people to work in South Korea, but the challenge faced by Timorese Young is a lack of knowledge of the Korean language. We needed the Timorese government to provide more training in the Korean language in Timor-Leste,” the Ambassador said.
So far over 3.700 Timorese young people are working in South Korea.
