DILI, 11 August 2023 (TATOLI)- International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and National Communication Authority (ANC) organized a workshop on Information Communication Technology (ICT) aim to provide Digital Skills for life.
Regional Director of Pacific Telecommunication Development, Atsuko OKUDA said it is a great time to welcome female students from high school and university to enhance their skills in Information Communication and Technology (ICT) and properly use ICT digital platforms to benefit in life.
“In this workshop, the female students will get information from the potential women as Secretary of State Gender Equality (SGE) to encourage female students to pursue their carrier to achieve a better future,’’ Regional Director of Pacific Telecommunication Development, Atsuko OKUDA said in her remarks in Timor Plaza, Friday
ICT science will ensure female students become role models and mentors to explore diverse carrier opportunities through the ICT day program.
The president of ANC, João Oliveira Freitas said this is the second workshop saying the first event was held in last 2022.
“ In this workshop the regional director of ITU, Atsuko OKUDA as a principal speaker to share the digital Information communication and technology science to female study to pursue their carries. Secretary of State for Equality, Elvina de Sousa Carvalho said SGE is taking this opportunity to share information on the science of ICT.
“We are talking about the risk of ICT users which does not benefit for students to develop their ability. We are here to share our experience as potential women for carrier achievement,’’ She said
This ICT day workshop will help female students to properly use the internet because so far Many people still lack the freedom to use digital platform technology.
“ We understand that most of the Timorese people even male and female still lack the knowledge for digital literacy, so many people still lack understating for properly using technology through social media,’’ She said
“ICT is composed of Information communication and technology, mostly women and girl victims of ICT due to lack knowledge on the science of ICT,” She concluded
Meanwhile, the data recorded by ITU estimated that 69% of males used the internet globally and 63% of females are internet users, therefore the total user is 256 million.
So far the workshop is co-funding by the Australian Embassy in Timor-Leste, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and Timorese Japan Alumni Association (TJAA). It is sponsored by Metro Link, Telekomcel, Telemor, and Timor Telcom.
The event held organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and National Authority Communication (ANC) and participated by Over 30 Timorese female students from 12 high schools and two universities composed of the National University of Timor-Leste (UNTL) and Institute of Business (IOB).
