DILI, 18 august 2023 (TATOLI) –University da Paz (UNPAZ), one of the private universities in Timor-Leste, requested that the new government improve bureaucracy to support Timorese entrepreneurs to boost economic development in Timor-Leste.
UNPAZ’s Rector, Adolmando Amaral Soares, said the new government should make it easy for Timorese entrepreneurs to apply for soft credit, which has been provided by the eight government constitutions.
“I recommended to the government to make it easy for criteria and reduce bureaucracy to apply for soft credit with 3% interest, which can be supported by entrepreneurs to develop their businesses and boost the economy in Timor-Leste,” UNPAZ’s Rector, Adolmando Amaral Soares, told journalists in Novo Turismo, Lecidere, friday.
He added the government has provided soft credit, but the applicant is not interested in applying because the criteria are very complicated, which is not an interest for the applicant to apply for.
Thus, the government should support entrepreneurs to transform land statutes that can be used for investment.
“We observed that Timorese entrepreneurs still faced the main issue of ensuring the guarantee for applying for any credit to improve investment and boost the economy in this country,” he pointed out.
Moreover, IOB’s rector, Pedro Ximenes, stated tht Timor-Leste is facing crucial economic development.
Thus, the government should support the private sector to get income to reduce the expenses of dependence on petroleum funds.
“We observed that the government should support financial support for micro and medium businesses such as ambulance vendors, women-run small businesses, culinary and snack businesses, and also invest in tourism, agriculture, and other industries, Pedro Ximenes said.
The government should invest in strategic sectors that can provide job opportunities to collect income.
It is known that the previous government constitution provided one million USD as a loan for Timorese entrepreneurs to develop their businesses. Every applicant will be deserved 25.000 USD for soft credit.
