DILI, 05 september 2023 (TATOLI)— Executive President of the National Institute of Science and Technology (INCT), José Cornélio Guterres has proposed funding $200,000 in the 2024 State Budget to establish a Digital Repository.

José Cornélio Guterres said that since its establishment in 2014, the INCT institution has made efforts to carry out research in the fields of agriculture, education, economy, social inclusion, and others but until now INCT still has a digital repository.

“We have conducted studies in digital repositories and we need software to organize all research materials in one place so that everyone can access and conduct studies. We have prepared proposals with the funds of $200,000, this will be included in the 2024 State Budget and implemented by next year,” Executive President of INCT José Cornélio Guterres told reporters at the Catedral Hall, Dili on tuesday.

The Executive President of INCTs said a digital repository is a digital file warehouse equipped with metadata to describe the digital files.

By encouraging the development of a strong and effective digital repository, the government of Timor-Leste can significantly support scientific research and development, help researchers to better contribute to community development, and improve the quality of education and knowledge in Timor-Leste.

“The activities we have carried out so far have included 47 research programs in various fields, we have also disseminated all research reports to the public and the government,” he said.

He emphasized that digital repositories have a very important role in supporting the research of researchers in Timor-Leste, such as Accessibility and Visibility, Archiving and Conservation, Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange, and Learning and Education.

By accessing relevant and up-to-date research, students, and learners can develop a better understanding of certain topics and deepen their knowledge in certain fields. This repository can also be an effective tool in continuing education and professional development.
