DILI, 12 september 2023 (TATOLI) –Minister of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, Nélio Isac Sarmento ,said the Government is postponing the CPLP football match to be held in 2025.
Sarmento informed an official letter from his office had been submitted to the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) regarding the postponement of the 12th Olympic Games to 2025.
“I have sent an official letter to the Secretariat of the Minister of Youth and Sports CPLP regarding the postponement of Timor Leste’s request for international events in our country. I recommend this letter to colleagues so that it can be implemented in 2025,” said Minister Nelio Izak to Tatoli, at the Ministry of Finance Building, Aitarak Laran, Tuesday.
He added that the CPLP Minister of Youth and Sports would decide in November in Angola regarding the postponement of CPLP football matches in Timor-Leste.
The government will prepare various conditions for holding this international event, including preparation of the football field and our athletes, as well as preparation of professional coaches to organize the football match.
“Therefore, I would like to inform the public that this international football match will not be held this year or next year,” he said.
The “XII CPLP Sports Match” which was supposed to be held in 2020, unfortunately, was not organized due to COVID-19 so it was rescheduled for 2024.
The CPLP competition is held every two years and aims to strengthen solidarity between CPLP members, Apart from that, it is also a cultural and social event to strengthen friendly relations between existing CPLP members.
