KOICA and Hyundai Research Institute deliver Online Capacity Building on Solid Waste Management for MTE

DILI 22 september 2023 ( TATOLI) — The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) announced the completion of an online capacity-building program on solid waste management in collaboration with Hyundai Research Institute. 

This program was specifically tailored for officials of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment (MTE) of Timor-Leste, and a total of 17 dedicated individuals, who have now received certificates recognizing their understanding in this vital field, have participated in the program.

Timor-Leste, renowned for its natural beauty, has been facing increasing challenges related to solid waste management. In response to this pressing issue, KOICA, in partnership with Hyundai Research Institute, designed a customized training program to empower officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively address these challenges.

The key highlight program including:

*Targeted Curriculum:The program’s curriculum was meticulously crafted to address the specific waste management needs of Timor-Leste. Topics covered included Korea’s Waste Management Policy, Localization of Korea’s Waste Policy, waste reduction strategies, and sustainable environmental practices.

*Dedicated Participants: A total of 17 officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment participated in the program, demonstrating their commitment to enhancing their knowledge and contributing to their country’s environmental sustainability.

*Expert Instruction: Participants had the privilege of learning from experienced experts and practitioners in the field of waste management and receiving the latest and most relevant information.

*Interactive Learning: The program incorporated interactive elements such as webinars, discussion forums, and preparing action plans while fostering engagement and deepening understanding among participants.

*Certificates of Achievement: All 17 officials who completed the program have been awarded certificates, and recognized for their dedication to environmental stewardship and deepening their understanding of solid waste management.

The collaboration between KOICA and Hyundai Research Institute highlights their shared commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation in Timor-Leste. By providing high-quality capacity-building opportunities, this initiative aims to empower Timorese officials and institutions to address the nation’s environmental challenges more effectively.
