DILI, 05 october 2023 (TATOLI) – The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) will provide US$3 million US for the reconstruction of the Dili Municipal Stadium in accordance with international standards to host competitions under FIFA, said Minister of Youth, Sport, Art and Culture, Nélio Isaac.

“FIFA will donate US$3 million dollars for the reconstruction of the Dili Municipal Stadium. If this amount is not enough, then the rest will be made available by the government,” said Minister Nélio at the Government Palace, in Dili.

He added that the government, in partnership with the Timor-Leste Football Federation (FFTL), and FIFA are discussing the agreement so that the work can begin.

Nélio said that last year, the Ministry of Justice awarded the Dili Municipal Stadium (which will no longer be “municipal”) to the FFTL so that FIFA could support the reconstruction in accordance with international standards: “At the time, FIFA was said to be providing US$50 million for the reconstruction of the stadium.”

FIFA will send a consultant to Timor-Leste earlier this month to observe the condition of the stadium before the reconstruction begins: “The government and FIVA will sign a Construction Contract Agreement before kicking off the reconstruction of the stadium.”

“Dili Municipal Stadium also has facilities that make it suitable for some other types of sports. So, improving the stadium would also benefit national athletics,” According to Nélio.
