DILI, 06 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), through the Economic, Sanitary and Food Activities Inspection Authority (AIFAESA), has sent a sample of Amor de Família brand rice to Indonesia to be analyzed at the Agency for Drug and Food Control.

Amor de Familia rice is one of the rice brands that has been subsidized by the government to be sold by importing companies at US$9. But recently, consumer concern about the quality of the rice has provoked public anger.

“We have already sent a sample of the Amor de Família rice to test its quality at the laboratory in Kupang,” said Minister of Trade and Industry, Filipus Nino Pereira at the National Parliament, today.

AIFAESA sent the rice sample after consumers expressed concern about the poor quality of the rice.

Minister Pereira emphasized that the importing companies would be sanctioned if the laboratory results proved that the quality of Amor de Familia rice was poor.

Fretilin MP, Cristina Rebelo expressed concern about the quality of the rice and called on the government to pay immediate attention to the issue.

PLP MP Maria Angelina Sarmento also asked the government to monitor the quality of rice, as consumers have made several complaints about the quality of the Amor de Família rice.

In an attempt to normalize the price of rice for consumers, the government is subsidizing the Perissos Victoria company to sell the rice with each 20kg sack at US$9.
