DILI, 17 November 2023 (TATOLI) – The Central Bank of Timor-Leste (BCTL), through its Humanitarian Fund, has built three houses for flood-affected families whose homes were destroyed during the flash floods of 4 April 2021.

The money for the construction of the houses was raised through collaboration between members of the BCTL team and key partners.

BCTL Deputy Governor Venancio Alves said: “The BCTL raised a total of US$16,492.90 to support the construction of the three houses for the flood-affected families, including two houses in Mole-Hatudu village, in Maubisse, Ainaro Municipality and one in Lesibutak village, in Dili.”

“The two houses in Maubisse were inaugurated on 12 august 2022. And, today we inaugurated another house with four bedrooms and a bathroom that cost more than 6,100 dollars, in the village of Lesibutak, in Dili,” said BCTL’s Administrative Director, Maria Soares.

Francisco Ribeiro, from the village of Lesibutak in Dili, who received the house, thanked the BCTL staff and partners for their support.

“I lost my house because it was completely buried by a landslide. Now I have a new house, which is very important for me and my family members,” said Francisco Ribeiro.
