DILI, 20 november 2023 (TATOLI) – The National Centre for Immunisation and Research and Surveillanmce (NCIRS), Australia, in collaboration with Timor-Leste’s National Immunization Technical Advisory Group (NITAG), and The National Institute of Public Health of Timor-Leste (INSP-TL) offered a Foundation Course on Immunization and Vaccines for health professionals from the Referral Hospital, National Hospital and the Ministry of Health to expand clinician’s knowledge of vaccines.
The training helped to save lives, reduce vaccine-preventable diseases, and strengthen health services for the people of Timor-Leste.
“This vaccinology training aims to build knowledge and practical skills related to the science of vaccines and how they are developed is a vital component of health professionals’ work,” said NITAG President, Mariano da Costa, in Dili.
More than 20 health professionals from the National Hospital, NITAG, and other relevant parties took part in the training.
Costa said that the training also helped health professionals to learn the science and engineering of vaccine development and to make decisions about introducing vaccines.
Vice-Minister for Institutional Strengthening in Health, José dos Reis Magno stressed that the training will help prepare health professionals to carry out vaccinations safely in the future.
WHO Representative to Timor-Leste, Arvind Mathur said that vaccines strengthen global health security by preventing and controlling over 30 infectious diseases, reducing unnecessary hospitalizations, and controlling infectious disease outbreaks.
