DILI, 23 november 2023 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, in his speech at the Timor-Leste International Business Forum 2023, highlighted the importance of cooperation between Timorese entrepreneurs and international businesspeople to enhance business growth in Timor-Leste.
Prime Minister said that the value of cooperation should not be underestimated.
“Cooperation should be encouraged for all Timorese entrepreneurs so they can capitalize on internal cooperation and strategic partnerships with international businesspeople, transferring knowledge, technology, and foreign capital to the country,” Gusmão said at the Timor-Leste International Business Forum 2023, in Dili, today.
He encouraged Timorese businesspeople to seek to step out of their comfort zones and build themselves up, as if it were a matter of survival.
“They should not look exclusively to the Government to provide them with the support they need, to finance their ambitions, or to get them out of their difficulties. On their own means, they must seek solutions favorable to their business areas and move forward, seeking out the cooperation and support they need,” emphasized Gusmão.
He said that wew partnerships will allow for the sharing of resources and experiences, helping their projects and investments evolve: “And yet, Timorese businesspeople know they can also count on the cooperation of the Government. The Government is a strategic partner of national and international companies.”
“We are a country that resisted and became sovereign in the most unlikely of contexts – we survived despite the sacrifices and difficulties of the Cold War era. We survived, thanks not only to the Timorese Resistance but also to the invaluable foundations of cooperation and solidarity around the globe. Not just cooperation and solidarity with other countries, but also cooperation and solidarity among the Timorese,” Gusmão said.
Timor-Leste International Business Forum 2023 which was officially opened by Prime Minister Gusmão aimed to foster debate about ideas and solutions which is considered the crucial step towards creating any business and entrepreneurship opportunity.
The theme of the Timor-Leste International Business Forum 2023 is “Discovering Blue and Green Opportunities for Sustainable Investment.”
