Mercy Corps marks the successful conclusion of ‘Hamenus Lixu Plastiku Project’ in TL

DILI, 27 november 2023 (TATOLI) – Mercy Corps Timor-Leste, on monday marked the successful conclusion of the Hamenus Lixu Plastiku Project, funded by the European Union in Timor-Leste.

The event was a celebration of the project achievement towards the reduction of plastic waste in Timor-Leste, as well as for everyone who has been part of it.

At this event, attendees also discovered a recycling and upcycling market that brought together local talent and businesses who are engaged in raising awareness about plastic pollution. Sixteen businesses and social enterprises conducted product demonstrations, showcasing their creations, and engaged directly with potential new clients.

This event brought together esteemed guests, including the Ambassador of the European Union Delegation in Timor-Leste, Marc Fiedrich, Nelson Madeira from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment, Director of Pollution and Control, Director SMASA, Herminio Moniz from Dili Municipal Authority, representatives from Permatil, Caltech, local CSOs, Recycling and Upcycling businesses, as well as EBC Directors and EBF Coordinators from the piloting schools, who has been part of this collective effort.

“A heartfelt thank you to the European Union and all our partners for their support in addressing plastic waste management in Timor-Leste. Together, we’ve worked towards limiting the generation of plastic waste and fostering a Civil Society Organization (CSO)-inclusive circular economy for a cleaner, healthier, and more prosperous Timor-Leste,” said Jules Keane,  the Country Director of Mercy Corps.
