DILI, 04 december 2023 (TATOLI) – During his four-day visit to Timor-Leste, Leung Chun-ying, the Chairman of the GX Foundation, a Chinese Non-Governmental Foundation, expressed interest in supporting the country’s health sector.
“During our meeting, we discussed with Prime Minister Gusmão about what we can do together to address public health concerns of the country,” said Leung Chun-ying after meeting Gusmão at Government Palace, today.
Leung Chun said during his visit, he talked to health professionals and the Health Ministry about the health issues in Timor-Leste: “We are going to look at the details of the needs of Timor-Leste.”
“We are very grateful for the Prime Minister’s support that he has given us. We are going to welcome something that will address the needs of the people of Timor-Leste,” said Leung Chun.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Gusmão said: “Leung Chun visited our health infrastructure, including hospitals and clinics in Baucau and elsewhere, and observed the living situation of the people. They will come back in the future to see what they can do in the health sector to support Timorese people,” said the Prime Minister.
Gusmão said that the GX Foundation would provide support as a charity and not on the side of the government.
The GX Foundation’s programs cover cataract blindness elimination, vector-borne disease control, health emergency disaster risk management, international partnership, community knowledge transfer, etc.
