MTC calls on telcommunicaiotns service operators to increase internet speed

DILI, 27 december 2023 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Telecommunications and Transport (MTC), Miguel Manetelu Marques, has urged the National Communications Authority (ANC) to regulate telecoms service operators in the country in order to prevent them from committing telecoms fraud and increase internet speed. 

The appeal was made because many customers were always complaining about the speed of the Internet and demanding immediate government intervention.

Minister Manetelu acknowledged the slow internet speed, stressing that the ANC must take action to regulate communications fraud in the country.

He said that many clients have experienced slow internet speeds, asking the companies to fix the issue and refund the money they paid for the internet package, but were unable to use the internet.

“The ANC should formally inform the telecoms service operators to refund or provide additional recharges and credits if customers do not use the Internet package they have purchased due to slow Internet speeds,” he said.

Manetelu called on the three companies to increase internet speed in the country, many clients experience the internet slow speed to ensure the satisfaction of internet users in the country.

The government is currently working on the implementation of the South Submarine Cable in order to solve the internet issue in Timor-Leste by 2025.

The previous government allocated US$ 41.6 million of the 2022 General State Budget for the acquisition of submarine fiber optic cable equipment.
