DILI, 03 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The General Directorate of Registries and Notaries (GDRN) of the Ministry of Justice has once again suspended the issuing of passports.
According to the institution’s Director-General, João Fernando Martins Borges, the institution has once again run out of passport booklets.
He said that the process of issuing passports will resume as soon as the new passport booklets arrive in the country.
Last month, the Ministry of Justice through the Directorate General of Notaries and Registration received 16,000 passport booklets to respond to the high demand of the citizens in the country.
Timor-Leste had been experiencing the depletion of the passport stock for months until the arrival of the 16,000 passport booklets last month.
“We will resume issuing passports as soon as the new booklets arrive in the country,” said Director Borges.
The Ministry of Justice would therefore have to order the new passport booklets in large numbers from abroad in order to respond to the high demand for passports in the country.
