Prime Minister appreciates stability and security during Christmas and New Year

DILI, 04 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, and Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, held their first weekly meeting in 2024 on thursday (04/01) to appreciate the stability and security during the Christmas holiday period and welcome the new year.

“We appreciate and evaluate the security situation during the Christmas and New Year period. Our observations through reports from the Police and our own, everything went well. The behavior of the youth was also good. This deserves congratulations to the whole people and the security forces,” said Head of State Ramos Horta after the meeting at the Presidential Palace.

“The oath that the F-FDTL and PNTL made has a big influence on the youth including in Bobonaro. So, this year, peace and calm can continue throughout 2024, so that we can focus again on what we will do for this country,” said the Head of Government, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, also giving an example that in the two hours of welcoming the new year 2024, at the Dili port, the youth gathered in crowds there, but did not create any problems, so the Prime Minister greatly appreciates the behavior of the youth.

The Prime Minister also thanked the initiative of the Head of State who created the 2023 Christmas Nativity Competition at the Presidential Palace compound to raise the light of Christian values.

This year, as the first year for the current government which has just executed its budget based on programs, in March, the Prime Minister will evaluate the performance of each government member’s work to continue increasing budget execution according to the program for the development of this nation.

Finally, the Prime Minister informed that President Horta will continue to meet with the Defense and Security Council including Defense and Security authorities to find out challenges and how to strengthen security to create more peace in the country.
