Govt and China Nuclear Company sign MoU to address TL’s waste management problem

DILI, 22 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the Dili Municipal Authority, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Nuclear Company for the purchase of garbage collection trucks and equipment, worth more than US$7 million to address waste management in Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste.

“We have signed an agreement with the Chinese company, China Nuclear, to purchase garbage collection trucks and other equipment to address waste problems in Dili,” said the president of the Dili Municipal Authority (PAM), Guilhermina Filomena.

She said that the purchase of this equipment was planned to take place between 2018 and 2022, but was postponed until 2024.

“China Nuclear Company is responsible for the procurement of equipment, including metal waste containers, garbage trucks, motorbikes, vacuum equipment, water tanks, and others,” Filomena said. “The equipment is expected to be in use by march 2024.”
