Pakistan and Timor-Leste strengthen bilateral ties

Pakistan's newly appointed non-resident ambassador to Timor-Leste, Ameer Khurram Rathore, meets Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão at the Palace of Government, in Dili/Image Prime Minister Office.

DILI, 20 february 2024 (TATOLI) – Pakistan’s newly appointed non-resident ambassador to Timor-Leste, Ameer Khurram Rathore, who is based in Jakarta, met with Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão on tuesday to discuss Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and supporting Timor-Leste’s National Development.

“We are looking forward to deepening our relationship between Pakistan and Timor-Leste,” Ameer Khurram Rathore, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan residing in Jakarta – Indonesia, told reporters at the Government Place, in Dili, today.

Rathore said he would be available to support the Timorese government in implementing the country’s vision to accelerate national development.

“I would be very happy to play whatever a very little role I can play in implementing the Prime Minister’s vision and strengthening our bilateral relations,” he said.

Pakistan played a very significant role in the peacekeeping force operation in East Timor and contributed to the country’s transition from East Timor to Timor-Leste.

Currently, the Pakistani community living and residing in Timor-Leste is made up of more than 100 Pakistani businessmen, etc.

“I hope that more Pakistanis will come to Timor-Leste for business and tourism activities: To deepen our bilateral relationship, Prime Minister Gusmão has instructed me on certain areas where we can collaborate further,” said Rathore.

On the same day, Rathore also met with the Minister of Defence, Donaciano do Rosário Gomes ‘Pedro Klamar Fuik’, to discuss strengthening ties between the two countries in the defense sector.

“Pedro Klamar Fuik” appreciated the visit of the Pakistani ambassador, saying that the visit was crucial for defining the priorities of defense cooperation between the two countries.

On monday, Ambassador Rathore presented his credentials to the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, to begin his diplomatic mission in Timor-Leste.
