DILI, 22 february 2024 (TATOLI) – JICA recently organized a training program titled, ’ICT in Education’, inviting eight ICT teachers from schools in various municipalities in Timor-Leste. It provided the participants an opportunity to gain insights into Japan’s administrative systems and policies related to ICT education through lectures, case studies, on-site visits to schools, and discussions with stakeholders in the education sector. They also explored examples of ICT integration in classrooms and receive basic training using tablet devices.
The Timorese teachers discussed experiences and educational technologies with their Japanese counterparts, fostering dialogue and the exchange of ideas to address the specific challenges faced by Timor-Leste’s education sector.
According to Joanico Monteiro, IT teacher of Becora Vocational School, and Joao Gaio, IT teacher of ETI School, it was an eye-opening experience.
“There were many things too advanced for Timor-Leste, but there are also many simple things that could be implemented here,” Monteiro said in a statement.
Monteiro exclaimed: “I feel incredibly grateful for this amazing opportunity!”
He eagerly shared his plans to enhance his classroom by incorporating cutting-edge technology, such as projectors and other digital tools, to make his lessons more engaging and interactive.
Joao Gaio shared: “I want to help my students in the class be more disciplined by producing more appropriate rules in the class! And probably start utilizing the internet to do online class, should I not able to be at my classroom, or maybe do online a discussion with the other branch of our school in other municipalities!”
‘ICT in Education’ was one of many tailor-made training programs for Timor-Leste participants JICA has organized, covering various development sectors.
