DILI, 08 march 2024 (TATOLI) – On International Women’s Day 2024, Timor-Leste reaffirms its steadfast commitment to investing in the empowerment of women and girls across all sectors.

“When we invest in women’s education, healthcare, economic opportunities, and leadership roles, we accelerate progress for all of society,” President Horta made the comments on the occasion of the celebration of International Women’s Day.

He said that an empowered woman uplifts her family, her community, and our nation: “Let us continue breaking down barriers, challenging gender stereotypes, and creating equitable world where every woman can reach her full potential without impediment.”

“Happy International Women’s Day to All the remarkable women in Timor-Leste and around the globe, whose resilience, determination, and contribution shape a better future for all,” said Horta

United Nations said that: “Achieving gender equality and women’s well-being in all aspects of life is more crucial than ever if we want to create prosperous economies and a healthy planet. However, we are facing a key challenge: the alarming US$360 billion annual deficit in gender-equality measures by 2030.”

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

UN has designated the year 2024’s theme as ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ with a focus on addressing economic disempowerment, while the campaign theme for this year is ‘Inspire Inclusion.’
