DILI, 16 april 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta met with representatives from the Timor-Leste Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI-TL) that was led by CCI-TL President Jorge Manuel de Araújo Serrano, at the Presidential Palace.
The meeting was part of the CCI-TL’s quarterly updates with the President.
Jorge Serrano stated that the discussions focused on the chamber’s ongoing work to consolidate its networks across Timor-Leste’s 13 municipalities, provide training and advocacy for its members, and represent the needs of the broader business community.
President Horta and the CCI-TL representatives also discussed the organization’s participation in Timor-Leste’s national development process, including its work with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) to support the country’s economic sustainability, according to Jorge Serrano.
Additionally, the group addressed some of the policy and legal challenges facing investment in Timor-Leste. In the agriculture sector, Jorge Serrano outlined the CCI-TL’s efforts to increase local food production, with the goal of reducing imports of rice and other agricultural products.
As Timor-Leste continues its economic development, the partnership between the government and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be crucial in navigating challenges and identifying opportunities for the private sector to contribute to the country’s growth.
The CCI-TL, established in 2010, is the recognized representative of the private business sector in Timor-Leste and is a trusted strategic partner with the Government. A 2017 government resolution formally designated the CCI-TL as an official strategic partner.
