DILI, 27 april 2024 (TATOLI) – Presidency of the Republic of Timor-Leste, through the Civil Society Service and Social Affairs (SSAS), provided social support to citizens in rural areas of Viqueque Municipality.
Social support was provided to the communities in Suku Uma-Tolu, Lacluta Administrative Post, Suku Uma-Uain Kraik, Viqueque Administrative Post, and Suku Afaloicai, Uatulari Administrative Post, Viqueque Municipality with a total of 60 beneficiaries.
Social Support includes the provision of basic food, building materials for the construction of houses for vulnerable families, and the improvement of school buildings, as well as the provision of sports and agricultural equipment.
Regarding the house construction program, the Presidency only provides construction materials and the local authorities will mobilize their people to help build the houses.
“We offered social support to impoverished families. We also observed and coordinated with local authorities following requests from local authorities in previous years regarding citizens living in very poor housing conditions. Before the end of this year, we will construct houses for them,” said Advisor Quintiliano.
He also stressed that this social support activity received direct guidance from President Horta to help the most vulnerable people. The budget for this activity comes from the Presidency of the Republic and international donors.
The Village Chief of Uma-Uain Kraik, João da Costa expressed gratitude for the support provided by the Presidency of the Republic to his community.
“On behalf of my community, I would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the team from the Presidency of the Republic, who distribute this social support to my people,” said Costa.
Costa also recommended that the Presidency of the Republic continue to identify and support people living in situations of extreme vulnerability, including building sturdy houses for the elderly and orphans.
