DILI, 06 may 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta. on sunday (05/05), inaugurated a Religious House of the Missionary Daughters of Divine Mercy (FMDM-Portuguese Acronym) in Metinaro, Dili.

Sister Josefina Bakhita, FMDM, as the founder of this New Missionary, expressed her gratitude to President Horta, who has helped them build this Religious Community House.

“First of all, we thank the Most Holy Trinity, and the Virgin Mary through the President of the Republic, who is like a father to the nation and also serves as a mother to the nation, but he has a father’s role, listening and feeling for these poor people, this community or group, thinking of solving the problems that the nation can’t carry alone, the church can’t carry alone, that we all need to carry together,” Sister Bakhita said in a statement,” said Sister Bakhita. “So, President Horta collaborated with us to cover this gap, we also thank all entities, families, and various Donors who have helped us with this construction.”

The “Missionary Daughters of Divine Mercy” Community began in 2013 and its existence has now entered its twelfth year, with only 3 (three) new members and other candidates still in the training phase.

The Proper Mission of this community is to care for the elderly, mothers, and child victims of violence who have been abandoned. The legal process according to the path of faith will be in the preparation phase to obtain recognition from the Holy See as the head of the Catholic faith.

The pastoral journey that these sisters have been through, initially living in Perumnas Dili, rented houses for 9 (nine) years, with the help of donors, elders, the community, and pastoral leaders in various ways. After that, they obtained land in Metinaro-Dili as a mission and pastoral land, which was offered free of charge by the landowner.

The construction work for this missionary house began in mid-2023 and was completed in february 2024, with the support of the President of the Republic, through the Civil Society Service and Social Affairs to carry out the construction to completion with a total budget of US$32,500.

The Missionary Daughters of Divine Mercy Community (FMDM) is just starting its existence, but with God’s accompaniment, they will continue to serve their neighbors through the charism they carry out.
