DILI, 19 may 2024 (TATOLI) – On the 22nd Anniversary of Timor-Leste’s restoration of Independence Day on may 20th, President and Nobel Peace Laureate, Jose Ramos Horta awarded the Order of Timor-Leste to national and international personalities in recognition of their dedicated service and contributions to the development of Timor-Leste.
The President bestowed national honors upon 63 Timorese and International recipients, conferring the Order of Timor-Leste in the categories of Collar, Medal, Insignia, and Medal of Merit.
Four Personalities, both national and international, were honored with the Order of Timor-Leste in the Collar category for their outstanding contribution to the development of Timor-Leste.
President Horta recognized 12 engineering professors from the National University of Timor-Lorosa’e (UNTL) and 12 members of the Personal Security who have served selflessly for over 20 years, and two activists of the Black Brigade for their activism during the Timor-Leste struggle for independence. They were awarded the Order of Timor-Leste in the Medal category.
Eight members of the Timorese diaspora community were recognized with the Order of Timor-Leste in the Insignia category for their activism.
In a separate category, the Medal of Merit was conferred upon 6 health services personnel and 15 sanitation services personnel for their loyal service dating back to 2001, and four international advisors who have provided valuable expertise in legal, IT, and maritime sectors.
“These exemplary personalities, both Timorese and International friends of our nation, have played pivotal roles in building a free, peaceful and prosperous Timor-Leste,” said President Horta.
“Their selfless dedication across various fields has contributed immensely to our young democracy’s progress. Timor-Leste proudly recognizes their service with these honors,” added Horta.
The Order of Timor-Leste acknowledges exceptional services rendered by outstanding professionals for the benefit of Timor-Leste and its people. The nation has successfully navigated various challenges and achieved notable successes in certain areas of development, thanks to the dedicated efforts of our Holders of State Sovereignty Bodies, Members of the National Parliament, and the Government during their respective mandates.
This act of acknowledgment by the President stands as a symbol of deep appreciation for each personality’s unwavering dedication and services for the betterment of Timor-Leste.
