DILI, 29 may 2024 (TATOLI) – The Council of Ministers approved a draft Decree-Law aims to establish the new Police Statute for the National Police of East Timor (PNTL).
The draft Decree-Law was presented by the Minister of the Interior, Francisco da Costa Guterres.
This new PNTL statute aims to improve the current regulations by introducing significant changes, such as the reintroduction of the oath of allegiance, the definition of incompatibilities, and objective criteria for promotions.
“New leadership positions are also established in the PNTL to meet organizational needs,” said in a statement.
This diploma reflects the importance of guaranteeing a professional, well-trained, and structured national police force, with the aim of consolidating the rule of law and promoting democracy on national territory.
