ChildFund signs MoU with INDDICA on Child Protection and Safeguarding

DILI, 10 july 2024 (TATOLI) – ChildFund Timor-Leste is pleased to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Instituto para a Defesa dos Direitos das Crianças (INDDICA), a government Institute for safeguarding children’s rights in Timor-Leste.

The MoU, signed by the Country Director of ChildFund Timor-Leste, Alzira dos Reis and the President of INDDICA, Dinorah S. X. Granadeiro in ChildFund Timor-Leste’s Office in Dili, establishes a cooperative framework aimed to enhance collaborative efforts and utilize resources from both parties to protect and promote children’s rights in Timor-Leste.

Key Areas of Cooperation:

  1. Promotion of Children’s Rights: Elaborate Child Protection Mechanism between CFTL with INDDICA-IP to protect, promote and respond to children rights subject in Timor-Leste context, together with relevant institutes in area of early education, maternal & Child Health, nutrition child protection area focus on swipe safe online, disaster risk prevention, social emotional learning ; and promote gender equality, disability and social inclusion (GEDSI)
  2. Advocacy and Campaigns: Conduct child-rights-based advocacies and campaigns for child protection and safeguarding; advocate for early education and the integration of the Swipe Safe Online safety modules into the national curriculum; and organize campaigns for national and international observances.
  3. Program Implementation: Collaborate on the implementation and joint monitoring of various child protection and well-being initiatives.

“This agreement is not merely a starting point but also reinforces and formalizes the cooperation that have been in place for the past few decades, especially joint efforts in promoting children’s rights and advocacy through the advocacy network group on children’s issues in Timor-Leste. A major priority for ChildFund Timor-Leste and INDDICA in this cooperation includes the promotion of children’s rights through public awareness and campaigns, advocacy on children’s rights issues including the importance of early education, child health and nutrition, and child protection in the Swipe Safe Online Safety program” said Alzira on tuesday.  

“This collaborative effort aims to promote children’s rights through the programs outlined in the MoU. Additionally, we engage in socialization and advocacy on children’s rights issues, supporting the State’s initiatives to ensure that no child is left behind. This partnership creates opportunities and spaces for children to contribute to national development and provide them with protection against various forms of violence, including online threats. By working together, we can further strengthen our partnership and amplify our voice within society,” stated Ms. Dinorah.

This MoU marks a significant step towards enhancing child protection and safeguarding in Timor-Leste. Both organizations are committed to making a tangible impact on the lives of children and their families.
