Minister Freitas and Executive Secretary discuss preparations for CPLP Council of Ministers Meeting

DILI, 13 july 2024 (TATOLI) – Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Bendito dos Santos Freitas on friday, held a courtesy meeting with the Executive Secretary of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP), Zacarias Albano da Costa, to discuss the preparations for the annual meeting of the CPLP Council of Ministers to be held on 19 july in São Tomé and Príncipe.

The annual meeting of the Council of Ministers is very important to give follow-up to the action plan, including the agreements agreed at the summit of Heads of State and Heads of Government held in São Tomé and Príncipe, in 2023.

“These action plans focus on youth development and sustainability programs, including cooperation programs in the areas of human resources training, personal mobility, education as well as youth and sports,” said in a statement.

The executive secretary of the CPLP, Zacarias Albano da Costa, emphasized that the meeting also discussed the situation of the CPLP and Timor-Leste, especially the activities taking place in São Tomé and Príncipe and the presidency of the CPLP, as well as the major challenges that the CPLP community will face in the future.

Costa said that the meeting of the CPLP Council of Ministers will also decide on the calendar for the CPLP summit in 2025 and will also decide on handing over the rotating presidency of the CPLP to the other CPLP members to lead next year.

Meanwhile, the meeting was accompanied by the Representative of Timor-Leste’s Permanent Mission to the CPLP, Ambassador Laura Abrante, Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Portugal, Isabel Guterres, and others.
