DILI, 05 august 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, met with Roberto Sarmento de Oliveira Soares, Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Indonesia, to discuss strengthening ties with that country.
The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and managing the relationship with Indonesia more effectively.
The main topics included efforts to reinforce ASEAN accession and exploring new areas of cooperation beyond existing collaborations. The President emphasized the importance of Timor-Leste being able to contribute on equal footing with other ASEAN members after joining ASEAN.
The discussion also addressed border issues, with both parties agreeing to work towards solutions that benefit both nations while maintaining peace and stability in border areas.
Additionally, the possibility of an official visit from Indonesian representatives was discussed, potentially marking a new phase in future bilateral relations.
