DILI, 06 august 2024 (TATOLI) – The Secretary-General of Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL), Luis Pedro Pinto, along with Emidia Belo, the coordinator of the Department of Disaster Management at CVTL, attended the 9th Singapore Humanitarian Conference and the 2nd Singapore Red Cross Volunteer Convention. This significant event took place from August 3-5, 2024, in Singapore, bringing together leaders and volunteers from various humanitarian organizations across Asia.
The conference served as a platform for in-depth discussions on the latest trends and strategies in humanitarian aid and volunteer engagement. Mr. Pinto underscored the importance of regional cooperation and knowledge exchange in enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of humanitarian responses.
“Participating in this conference allows us to learn from the experiences of other nations and share our own practices, ultimately strengthening our capabilities to manage aid for those in need,” Pinto said in a statement.
Belo emphasized the crucial role of volunteers in disaster response and recovery, drawing from her extensive experience in the field.
“Volunteers are the backbone of our humanitarian efforts. Their dedication and hard work are essential in times of crisis, and conventions like this help us to inspire and empower them,” Belo added.
Timor-Leste’s participation in these events underscores CVTL’s commitment to advancing humanitarian efforts and volunteerism. By engaging with peers and experts from across Asia, CVTL aims to enhance its strategies and operations, ensuring better preparedness and response to future humanitarian needs.
During the conference, CVTL leaders also had the opportunity to meet with the Singaporean Red Cross leadership and the Timor-Leste Ambassador in Singapore, further strengthening international collaboration.
