DILI, 14 august 2024 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, is honored to welcome distinguished Nobel Laureates to Timor-Leste for the nation’s inaugural Sci-Tech EXPO 2024. This prestigious event, running from august 14-16, will take place at the Noble Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
The Sci-Tech EXPO 2024, themed “Science, Technology & Innovation: The Path Towards Transformation and Sustainable Development in Timor-Leste,” inaugurated by President Horta, brings together some of the world’s most brilliant minds to share their knowledge and inspire Timorese youth.
Key events in the expo include: Official opening ceremony and photo exhibition inauguration by the Head of State, Lectures on mobile health technologies, telemedicine, and educational technology, Panel discussion on strengthening innovation in Timor-Leste, and Q&A sessions allowing Timorese students and professionals to engage directly with the laureates
The esteemed guests for The Sci-Tech EXPO 2024 include: Professor Konstantin Novoselov, Nobel Laureate in Physics, Professor Martin Chalfie, Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Professor Shwetak Patel, MacArthur Fellow and ACM Prize in Computing recipient, and Professor Eric Brewer, ACM Fellow and pioneer in cloud computing
The presentations and discussions are moderated by Rui Paulo de Jesus, and Abel Pires, Former Deputy and Former Minister of Public Works.
“This event represents a significant milestone in Timor-Leste’s journey towards scientific and technological advancement,” said President Ramos-Horta. “By bringing these brilliant minds to our shores, we aim to inspire our youth, foster innovation, and pave the way for growth in Timor-Leste.”
The Sci-Tech EXPO 2024 is part of the broader Timor-Leste Tourism Promotion Program 2024, showcasing the country’s commitment to progress in various sectors. The Sci-Tech EXPO 2024 is open to the public and will feature a series of high-profile activities from August to October 2024.
