IFC – AEMTL, in partnership with Australian Government host TL’s first Women in Business Awards 2024

DILI, 20 august 2024 (TATOLI) – The International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Associação Empresarial das Mulheres de Timor-Leste (AEMTL), in partnership with the Government of Australia hosted Timor-Leste’s first Women in Business Awards.

The Awards aim to celebrate women who excel in their careers, businesses, and entrepreneurship while serving as role models for others, appreciate and encourage legislative, public, and private executive authorities, and civil society for their contribution towards gender equality, diversity, good governance, and financial inclusion and show appreciation for institutional and individual efforts, initiatives and projects that target mainstreaming diversity and financial inclusion of women.

There are five award categories recognizing Timorese women’s success and celebrating their achievements, including Economic Empowerment Initiative, Professional Capacity Building, Women-Led Business, Women in Management, and Women in Financial Services.

The President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, stressed the importance of empowering women entrepreneurs in various sectors, including politics, education and health.

“We must also promote female talent and defend equality and gender rights,” said the Head of State at the launch of the awards, in Dili.

According to the President of the AEMTL, Hergui Luina Fernandes Alves said that the awards aim to improve women’s performance and encourage public and private institutions to continue supporting women’s empowerment.

The awards ceremony will take place on november 8, and the representatives from the IFC, the BCTL, the Timor-Leste Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs will be the jury.

Nomination Requirements:

  • Anyone may submit a nomination (Self nominations or nominate another) for the Women in Business Awards with the candidate’s permission.
  • Nominations are open to individuals of all nationalities.
  • Nominees can be from the public sector, corporate sector, associations, or non-government organizations.
  • Only businesses based in Timor-Leste are eligible for nomination.
  • Nominees cannot be a judge or affiliated to a judge on the Awards Committee.
  • Nominations can be submitted for 1 to 3 categories only. Judges reserve the right to place nominees in the most suitable category based on their profile, which may differ from the categories initially selected by the nominator.
  • Nominations must clearly explain why the candidate stands out for the selected award. Sufficient information highlighting the nominee’s individual and corporate achievements is required.
  • Winners must attend the Award Ceremony in Dili to receive their award in person. Awards will not be couriered to winners.
