DILI, 26 august 2024 (TATOLI) – The United Nations (UN) Representative in Timor-Leste, Funmi Balogun, conducted a courtesy visit with the Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, and Minister of Tourism and Environment, Franciso Kalbuadi Lay, to discuss UN support in all development sectors in Timor-Leste.
“I had a courtesy meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Francisco Kalbuadi Lay. During the meeting, we both discussed the support of the UN in all sectors to continue cooperation in the future. Funmi Balogun told reporters in Farol, Dili, on monday.
She said the meeting also discussed Timor-Leste’s 25th referendum day.
‘This 25th Referendum Day, we reflect on what we have done and also what we will do in the future; therefore, the UN wishes to cooperate specifically on food transformation, education, health, financing, and also investment opportunities. How can we cooperate with the private sector to facilitate them in improving the quality of investment in diversifying the economic growth in Timor-Leste?’ she stated.
During the meeting, she informed us that the UN General Secretary will attend the 25th anniversary of the referendum; thus, the UN shows its commitment to cooperate in building a better Timor-Leste in the future.
At the same place, Deputy Prime Minister Francisco Kalbuadi Lay thanked the UN representative for visiting his office and for continuing to support the development in all sectors in the future.
“The UN has been supporting Timor-Leste since 1999 in the process of the referendum, and then we got our independence. They continue to help us, and today the UN representative in Timor-Leste made a courtesy visit to discuss their support for all sectors of development that will be carried out in the future,’ he concluded.
