DILI, 09 october 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, met with Australia’s Governor-General, Sam Mostyn AC, at the Governor-General’s residence in Canberra on wednesday.
This courtesy meeting allowed the Head of State and the Governor-General to continue discussions on bilateral matters between the two nations, recognizing their status as neighboring countries with strong ties to Timor-Leste’s history.
During the meeting, President Ramos-Horta expressed gratitude for Australia’s support to Timor-Leste in various areas. He specifically acknowledged Australia’s assistance during Pope Francis’s visit to Timor-Leste in early september of this year.
“The Governor-General also took the opportunity to express her confidence in the current Head of State. She voiced her trust in President Horta’s commitment to continue promoting democracy and defending human rights,” said in a statement.
This meeting between the Timor-Leste President and the Australian Governor-General highlights the ongoing diplomatic relations between the two countries. It demonstrates their mutual interest in maintaining open communication and fostering bilateral cooperation.
