DILI, 20 november 2024 (TATOLI)— The Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment (SEFOPE) and Charles Darwin University (CDU) on tuesday signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to implement the Provision of Vocational Training special for aged care for Timorese Trainers.
Rogerio Araújo Mendonça, the Secretary of State for Vocational Training and Employment, said with this signing of the MoU, Charles Darwin University will send their technical expert to Timor–Leste for facilitating the ToT (Training of Trainer) to Timorese youth in Dili.
“The signing of the MoU aims to have Charles Darwin University assist ToT for aged care training for Timorese trainers in the Dili Center Training, which was previously built in Tasi-Tolu. For the first phase of training, SEFOPE had prepared 38 trainers, who will give the aged care training to them over three and a half months, which will be started next month; after that, they will become trainers in 14 training centers in 14 municipalities, including the accredited training center in Timor-Leste, Rogerio Araújo Mendonça told reporters at the office of SEFOPE, Cai-Coli, on tuesday.
Mendonça highlighted the demanding nature of Australia for aged care, which is very high; therefore, SEFOPE is working together with the Australian Embassy in Timor–Leste and Charles Darwin University to facilitate the qualification of aged care training before sending them to assist the aged care in Australia.
“This training is very crucial. I hope that the student of medicine can attend this training to add their knowledge and experience to get the opportunity to serve in aged care in Australia,’’ he said.
At the same place, the representative of Charles Darwin University, Michael Hamilton, appreciated SEFOPE’s initiative to facilitate the qualification training for the Timorese youth prior to work in Australia.
“We are ready to work together with SEFOPE; with this signing of the MoU, our team will come to facilitate the international qualification standard for aged care, aiming to add their knowledge before work in Australia in serving the aged care professionally,’’ he concluded.
SEFOPE had allocated over $9,000 to implement the provision of vocational training for seven months, which will be started by next month. This ToT will be attended by 38 people who are divided into two groups. Each group will attend the training for three and a half months.
