DILI, 09 december 2024 (TATOLI) – Shaima Salem Alhebsi, the Deputy Head of Mission of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Embassy in Jakarta met Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão in Dili to express the UAE’s interest to build a cardiology hospital in Timor-Leste.
“They (UAE) want to build a hospital. So today I invited her to see the condition of the Lahane Cardiology Health Center. I asked them not to build a new hospital, but instead to equip this hospital with the essential medical equipment to provide proper treatment for patients, in order to reduce the number of patients who have to be treated abroad,” said Prime Minister Gusmão.
Gusmão also asked the United Arab Emirates to support Timor-Leste in the development of human resources, especially in the health sector.
Alhebsi thanked Prime Minister Gusmão and President Horta for their hospitality and pledged to work with the Government of Timor-Leste to make the project a reality.
The United Arab Emirates has also built a cardiology hospital in Solo, Indonesia, where Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin has vowed to complete the list of specialist doctors for the hospital, whose construction is currently in its final stages, according to ANTARA.
