DILI, 08 january 2025 (TATOLI) – The Council of Ministers, on wednesday, approved Air Service Agreements (ASA) with People’s Republic of China (PRC) and the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The Government Resolutions on the ASA were presented by the Vice-Minister for ASEAN Affairs, Milena Maria da Costa Rangel.

The resolutions will be submitted to the National Parliament for ratification in the near future.

These agreements aim to strengthen the friendly relations and cooperation between Timor-Leste and these two countries, as well as contributing to the development of the air transport sector.

“By promoting commercial exchanges and increasing regular air connections, the agreements aim to foster economic growth and boost tourism. The agreements are also in line with Timor-Leste’s accession process as a full member of ASEAN and with the organization’s ‘Open Skies’ policy,” said in a statement.

The ASEAN Open Sky Policy, also known as the ASEAN Single Aviation Market (ASEAN-SAM), is a free market concept that allows airlines from ASEAN member states to fly without restrictions between Southeast Asian countries.
