DILI, 13 February 2025 (TATOLI) – The Angolan President João Lourenço will make an official visit to Timor-Leste, next month.

A statement by Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão, following his weekly meeting with President Horta, stated that the visit aims to strengthen cooperation between the two CPLP countries.

The visit makes João Lourenço the first Head of State from the Portuguese-speaking African countries to visit Timor-Leste.

“During the meeting, President Horta told me that in March, the Angolan President will visit Timor-Leste,” Gusmão said at the Presidential Palace today.

Both countries are expected to sign several agreements, reflecting their commitment to expanding bilateral relations and advancing cooperation for the benefit of the Timorese and Angolan people.

Last year, during Horta’s visit to Luanda, resulted in significant diplomatic advances between Timor-Leste and Angola.

The agreements, signed in the presence of President Ramos-Horta and his Angolan counterpart João Lourenço, include a Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral political consultations, an accord between diplomatic academies, and a visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and service passports.
